Tips For Traveling With Kids During The Holidays

Posted by Ashley Nackos on

Are you considering traveling for the holidays or, perhaps you have to in order to be with family and friends? Don’t fret, whether by air, rail, car or other, we’ve got some tips for those traveling with little children to help things go smoothly. Remember to think about traveling as an opportunity to explore and create new memories together as a family, and if you can plan enough in advance, it could be a breeze.

Here’s our list of tips for making the holiday travel experience more enjoyable for everyone!

1. Plan Ahead
    • Book Early: Secure your flights and accommodations early to avoid last-minute stress.
    • Family-Friendly Stays: Choose places that offer cribs, highchairs, or maybe even babysitting services.
    • Allow Extra Time: Factor in extra time for diaper changes, feeding, and unexpected needs – there will ALWAYS be unexpected needs.

    2. Pack Smart
      • Diaper Bag Essentials: Bring diapers, wipes, extra clothes, bottles, pacifiers, and snacks.
      • Comfort Items: Don’t forget their favorite blanket or toy for comfort.
      • Entertainment: Bring toys, books, or play games to keep them entertained. We won’t judge if you opt for a little screen time in moderation ;)
      • Surprise Treats: A small surprise toy or snack can go a long way.
      • Documents: If you are flying, make sure to bring your baby’s birth certificate & their passport if you’re traveling internationally.

      3. Be Flexible
        • Have realistic expectations: Be ready to change plans if things go sideways.
        • Short and Sweet: Plan shorter activities to avoid over-stimulation.
        • Sleep Schedule: Keep their sleep as normal as possible, but don’t stress if it’s a little off.

        4. Health and Safety
          • Hand Hygiene: Use sanitizer and wash hands often.
          • Stay Hydrated: Make sure everyone is drinking enough water.
          • First Aid Kit: Have basics like band-aids and pain relievers ready.

          5. Enjoy the Moment
            • And if you need something to listen to during the long drive or even as background music during your get-togethers, here is our curated Family-Friendly Holiday Playlist.
