March 8th is International Women's Day and March is Women's History Month. While we celebrate the achievements of women at DockATot every day, this is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on some of the women that continue to inspire and energize us. Here, our team shares their female heroes--which range from famous heroines to more personal icons.

Lisa Furuland Kotsianis

(Lisa Furuland Kotsianis, founder of DockATot and Aristot)

"Current times as well as history is full of ground-breaking and inspirational women, but today I’d like to celebrate a woman whom I admire and who is very relevant in today’s day and age: Jane Goodall. She continues to tirelessly work for the protection of animals and has poignantly asked the question of how is it possible that we - the human kind, the most clever species ever to have lived - can destroy the only planet we have. She asks of us all to contemplate the following: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” I totally agree." -- Lisa Furuland Kotsianis, founder of DockATot and Aristot
Katie Carter DockATot

(Katie Carter, Associate Designer at DockATot)

"I’m very fortunate to have been raised by many strong women in my life, but my Grandmother, Bee, was one of the most special to me. She was a Romanian immigrant who came to the United States to be with her daughter, my Mom, and help take care of me, but also to escape the tumultuous, communist country of Romania. Bee lived a really challenging life prior to coming to the United States, but never complained about anything, except when my Dad would buy her margarine instead of butter for baking. She did everything for the people she kept close, but also commanded a high level of respect from everyone. She spoke candidly about everything.

Her immense love for animals and all innocent, helpless creatures was contagious. Bee taught me to have strong beliefs, but also to ask questions and learn from those outside of your mindset. Two of my favorite ideals of hers continue to be:

  • When you’re tired, rest. Your bed is the best place you can be.
  • Laugh at horror movies.
Bee was genuine, selfless, passionate, loving, strong, hardworking, funny, quirky, traditional and wise. I miss her everyday and am so thankful that such an amazing woman helped shape the person I am today."

Eva at SleepyheadI
(Eva Hedberg, International Sales Manager)

"I really admire Aung San Suu Kyi ( the unofficial leader of Myanmar/Burma). She is a selfless, brave woman with courage and conviction to put her country first.” -Eva Hedberg, International Sales Director

Brynley Anderson DockATot

(Brynley Anderson, Marketing Associate)

"A woman who inspires me is Elizabeth (Eliza) Schuyler Hamilton. She had courage and did so many good things for our country. She started the first orphanage in the U.S. and served with her entire heart. The struggles she went through didn't define her and she had grit and always came out on top." -- Brynley Anderson, Marketing Associate

Leslie Becker DockATot

(Leslie Becker, Art Director)

"I admire artist and designer Jessica Hische. She's a woman who practically created a segment of the graphic design industry at a young age through talent and hard work. I've seen her speak several times and she never sugarcoats what it takes to be successful, balance work and family, and stay relevant. She is incredibly warm, giving, and down to earth when dispensing advice. I always appreciate that talent comes with such humility." -- Leslie Becker, Art Director

Happy International Women's Day to all of the brave, strong and inspiring women we are lucky enough to encounter every day at DockATot!
